büttnerreisdias is a two person architecture practice, founded in 2022 by Gesa Büttner Dias and Rodolfo Reis Dias.

The small size of büttnerreisdias is strategic. We maintain a small footprint and overhead to operate with flexibility for our own obsession: work every day on buildings for everyday life. We are fluent in project management. From our previous professional experience, we bring extensive knowledge on program organization, construction systems and material assemblies.

Rodolfo Reis Dias has over twenty five years of experience in the field of architecture, urbanism and landscape and product design. He is a lecturer at the University of Southern California, and has previously taught at Cornell University. He started his career in Portugal with Aires Mateus & Associados and Paulo David Arquitecto as lead designer in their pioneer times. He later moved to US, New York City where he was an Associate at Steven Holl Architects and where he led the design and technical coordination of projects as such as Cite de l’Ocean et du Surf, Biarritz, France and the Horizontal Skyscraper, Vanke Headquarters, Shenzhen, China, within other projects at different scales. In 2011, he relocated to Los Angeles to join Johnstonmarklee where he was responsible for projects as Casa deMont in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, Pavilion of Six Views in Shanghai, China, and a multitude of retail projects throughout the country. He earned his B.Arch at the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa, Portugal.

Gesa Büttner Dias holds an architecture license in California. She has over twenty years of experience in the field of architecture, urbanism, landscape and community centered design. She is a lecturer at the University of Southern California, and has previously taught at Cornell University. Prior to her academic work, she worked for fifteen years as project architect at Gehry Partners, where she led the design and technical coordination of built projects such as the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin, a pedestrian bridge in Menlo Park, and the UTS Business School in Sydney. She collaborated with architecture firms in Paris, France, and was cofounding principal of gabpa, an award-winning design studio formerly based in Paris and LA. Since 2020 Gesa has taught several seminars and studios on community centered design and co-organized a symposium together with the Community Coalition in South LA on Activism and Neighborhood Preservation. She earned her M.Arch at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in LA, and her B.Arch at the Technical University Berlin, Germany.

büttnerreisdias+ becomes a collaborative. Buildings are not made alone–they are a collective effort. For this reason, whenever a project allows, we unite ourselves with similar minded practices and individual design professionals to work in a collaborative environment, which we call büttnerreisdias+
